Cantus Novus at 20—Legacy, Light and Love
In response to the coronavirus outbreak, Cantus Novus, like countless other arts organizations, is suspending activities until it seems safe to resume. Our May concerts had to be postponed, and current ticket holders have been notified. At this point it doesn’t look likely that venues will be able to open up soon, but we are working on a special project, so STAY TUNED!Cantus Novus marks our 20th anniversary season by inviting you to join in the celebration! Artistic Director Ed McCall has mapped out two dynamic, inspiring programs for winter 2019 and spring 2020 that commemorate the legacy, light, and love we bring to the community as Bucks County’s premier chamber choir.
True to our roots, this season honors both the rich a cappella choral tradition of Renaissance-era motets, and include repertoire from the best of contemporary composers with which Cantus Novus has “grown up.” We also pay tribute to our past two decades with a collection of “greatest hits”—favorite pieces selected by singers past and present.
Of special note for this anniversary season, Cantus Novus commissioned two new works. Our holiday 2019 concert featured Salvation!, a work by Bucks County composer Peter de Mets, and our May program will showcase the premiere performance of Bound for the Promised Land, a composition by Dr. Rollo Dilworth, Professor of Music Education at Temple University.
We sincerely thank all of the patrons and donors of our first 20 years, and invite you to join us as we celebrate the legacy, light, and love of Cantus Novus during this anniversary season.
Feel the love:
A celebration of Love
Spring is in the air—and so is love—as Cantus Novus continues our 20th anniversary season celebration with Feel the Love. This program features the most beloved songs from our past twenty spring programs that celebrate love. From the Renaissance to the 21st century, from a cappella motets to Broadway ballads and beyond, this concert will leave you feeling uplifted and with a song in your heart.
With an eye toward the future, Feel the Love will premiere a newly commissioned work by Dr.Rollo Dilworth, composed in honor of Cantus Novus and our 20th season. Dr. Dilworth is a friend of the choir and an internationally respected educator, composer, and clinician who is professor of Music Education at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Feel the Love focuses on what has made Cantus Novus beloved by our audience and donors throughout the years: audience favorites and Cantus Novus “standards,” along with a much anticipated world premiere.
